A roguelite sci-fi shooter.

In 2023 four friends and I teamed up to create a video game. Each of us brought a unique skillset to the table, and once we decided on the concept, we knew we were all in. My primary role? Writing, concept art, and composing the soundtracks.

The Story

You awaken as a machine - Roguebot - in a vast, decaying facility controlled by an enigmatic force known as Lucy. With no memory of your past or the hostile world around you, you're tasked with uncovering hidden satellite transmissions scattered throughout the levels. These satellites contain stories - ranging from Joan of Arc’s final moments to the late night contemplations of a software developer. Each satellite offers a branching path, moral dilemmas, and a glimpse into the human condition.

Your final decision - to integrate with your shadow or to continue the cycle - will not only shape the future, but influence the past. You decide in what world you want to live.

Roguebots story is intentional at every level. It respects the player’s intelligence, and invites reflection long after the gaming session is over.

While this was not my first project in creative writing, it was likely my most ambitious one yet: thirty pages’ worth of optional dialogue for the explorers and narrative-driven types to sink their teeth into. But that is not the story’s sole purpose. It enriches the world, informs the character designs, and expands the game’s lore from a mere sci-fi action shooter into a universe where decisions matter. Everything, even the roguelike genre itself, comes together in a narrative experience that can only be realized through the art form of video games. Roguebot tells a story not of machines, but of the deep human spirit that lives on long after we’re gone.
